As part of my team, you will be given an ARC about 30 days in advance of release. All I ask in return is for you to write an HONEST review and post it on at least one eBook retailer (Amazon, Nook, iBooks, Kobo, GooglePlay) and/or GoodReads. If you have a blog or the ability to post reviews to a popular blog (like Smexybooks or Smart Bitches, etc.), that would also be great! But I'm primarily looking for reviews on the major retailers and GoodReads. Once you've posted your review, please send me a link to it.
Anyone caught sharing my ARCs in any way, to include uploading to pirate sites or copy/pasting large excerpts on the web without prior permission, will be permanently banned from my ARC Team.
Easy peasey, right?
"What exactly should I expect?"
Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect:
--About 21-30 days before the official release, you will receive an email with details on the upcoming ARC, including story blurb and spice level. I aim for sultry (about a 3 or 4 on a level of 1 (no sex) to 5 (50 Shades)).
--If you OPT-IN to receive the next ARC, it will arrive via BookFunnel. These ARCs are each encoded with a special mark to prevent sharing them.
--On the day of release, or at least within 3-5 days of release, please post your review and send me the link to your review.
"What am I supposed to write in my review?"
Your honest opinion. What did you like about the book? Would you recommend it to others? Why? If you've never written a review before, take a look at some of the ones up on Amazon or Goodreads for inspiration. The only thing I ask is that on ALL reviews (good or bad), you include the verbage: "I was given an advance copy. The opinions expressed are my own." Please DO NOT say you were given an ARC in exchange for a review. Certain retailers interpret that as "paying" for a review, even if the review is negative, and they may block it.
"But Cate, what if I didn't like your book? Do you still want me to leave a review?"
YES. I'm serious when I say I want an honest review. All reviews, positive or negative, do help. It's my hope this situation will never come up, but I also know everyone has their own taste and their own opinion. I promise I'll only cry a little if you leave a less than stellar review. (kidding... sort of...) I also will not hold it against you. If you want to remain on my ARC Team, you may. Maybe you'll like the next one better!
"What if I don't want to be on your ARC Team anymore?"
I'll be sad to see you go, but I understand. Just drop me a line and I'll remove you, or click "Unsubscribe" in the email you will receive prior to me sending out the next ARC.
"Since you have so many others to review, is it okay if I skip this one?"
Actually, I don't have a ton of reviewers on my team. I am accepting only a limited number of people. But I do know how life gets in the way sometimes. So if you find yourself in a position where you cannot read and review within the guidelines mentioned above, just let me know. If anyone who receives an ARC does not post a review without letting me know first, they will be removed from my ARC Team.
Thank you for your interest in being a part of my ARC Team - The CATs! Please read through to the end and fill out the form to apply:
"Um, The CATs?"
Cate's ARC Team!
"So...what exactly is an ARC Team? What's an ARC, for that matter?"
An ARC is an Advance Review Copy. These are copies of an upcoming book given out to special readers in advance of the book's release. They may or may not be the absolute final proof version of the book. As part of my ARC Team, you will receive one of these advance copies for purposes of reading and reviewing in preparation for release day.
Reviews are the lifeblood of the author, especially independent authors (Indies) and small press authors (SPAs). They don't have the huge promotional and marketing backing one might get with a big publisher. Many of the opportunities available to Indies and SPAs to get greater exposure for their books are contingent on how many reviews their book has. And, of course, we want you to love our book and to tell the world about it!
